On May 19th with participation of Rector of the University of Latvia (UL), prof. Indrikis Muiznieks and Dean of the Faculty of Business, management and economics (FBME) assoc. prof. Gundars Berzins, solemnly first Alumni gathering of Management PhD English module studies took place in Salzburg. PhD Management English module is implemented together with University of Salzburg Business School and during 9 years, there are 34 foreign graduates

In gathering, which took place in the Edmundsburg Castle owned by the University of Salzburg, both Alumni and current students of the PhD module from Germany and Austria participated. The ceremony attended founders and managers of the PhD study module - Professor Baiba Savrina from UL FBME and Professor Joseph Neuert from SMBS. Also, the long-term lecturers of the doctoral module Professor Erika Sumilo and Professor Maris Purgailis from UL FBME participated in event. The former Rector of the University of Latvia prof. Marcis Auzins and professor of the University of Minnesota Brent Kigner from the United States delivered reports at the event. Professor M. Auzins delivered a lecture "Large Data and the Global Economy," in which he talked about common and different in fields of physics and economics. Professor B. Kigner, for his part, told about the behavioural economy and the latest research in this field.   On behalf of the graduates, Dr. Barbara Scharrer and Dr. Hans-Jürgen Brenniger spoke and shared their experience; they acknowledged that doctoral studies have substantially changed their professional lives and contributed to career development as well as successful business development. All the graduates also agreed that the doctoral studies allowed them to find new friends and establish valuable contacts, but especially to love Riga and Latvia.   Several letters of appreciation were presented for outstanding doctoral theses, which made a significant contribution to management science and society as a whole. For outstanding achievements and special merits in promoting international co-operation between universities, Professor B. Šavriņa received letter of appreciation and honorary medal awarded by the University of Salzburg Business School. At the gathering, it was decided that the official Alumni gathering ceremony will be held every second year and the next will take place in Riga.
