Faculty of Economics and management name change and Spring Intake 2017

Nowadays, in a rapidly changing world, one has to keep up with future challenges, therefore, from now on the Faculty of Economics and Management (FEM) of the University of Latvia is renamed to the Faculty of Business, Management and Economics (FBME) thus reflecting the diversity of the offered study programmes. The new name of the faculty comes together with the Spring intake 2017 for nine study programmes.

“The change of the name of the faculty has been a well-considered step as already now we offer 20 different study programmes in undergraduate, master and doctoral level, and we plan to offer several new study programmes in the nearest future. The support for the new name was received from current students as well as Latvian inhabitants from the results of SKDS entrepreneurs’ survey. In the light of pace of modern life, we have decided to organize Application Intakes twice a year – Spring and Autumn so that everyone could choose the most suitable time to start their studies.” emphasizes the Dean of the faculty Assoc. Prof. Gundars Berzins. In Spring Intake 2017 applications will open to the following study programmes for foreign students:

“According to data from the Central Statistical Bureau of Latvia, people with higher education earns at least 50% higher salaries than people with lower education level. Furthermore, nowadays for a successful development of a personality at least two higher educations or specializations are required, because each of them gives a qualitative step in both career and business,” reveals the Dean of the faculty, Assoc. prof. In the academic year 2016/2017 646 new students have enrolled. Faculty offers higher education based on nowadays practical situations; students not only receive academic knowledge but also can start their business ideas in Business Incubator of the University of Latvia already starting from the first study year. Here (Business Incubator of the University of Latvia) all students receive free of charge consultations as well as support from mentors, field professionals and experienced entrepreneurs. During the study process the faculty also organizes guest lectures with different field professionals, visits to enterprises, internships and other forms of cooperation with local and international companies.
